Blue light can suppress the production of melatonin, a sleep-inducing hormone. The overexposure to blue light for extended periods of time can damage your retinal cells. Blue light can contribute to vision problems such as headaches, dry eye, blurry vision, and fatigue. In some serious cases, macular degeneration . Blue light may contribute to cataracts and eye cancer as well. Some may also experience growths on the clear film cover over the white part of the eye (conjunctiva).

Blue light is beneficial in the daytime. The light boost your attention, mood, and alertness. However, blue light does impede your sleep. Hence the unbalanced melatonin. So you should make it a habit to eliminate devices 2-3 hours before going to bed.
